The Dump™

Meetings, Modems

It’s the end of another work week. Hooray for the weekend (and for four-day work weeks)!

This week, I’ve been in talks with a representative from one of our regions, who’s basically our client. If you think of Italian regions like U.S. states, you wouldn’t be far off. They’re a bit similar, just with less autonomy. Still, it’s a pretty big client. I think I made a good first impression but I guess we’ll see.

We also finally got access to FTTH internet at home, which is basically a full fiber-optic connection that goes directly into the building instead of stopping at a nearby cabinet like our current setup, and it's much faster and reliable. I called my ISP this morning and someone should be coming by on Monday to get everything set up. I've never had internet that speedy so I'm kinda excited about it!

When I was a kid, we used to get online using a tiny USB stick. You’d plug it into whatever computer you were using and that was it. It was insanely slow, with hard limits on data. After that, we switched to ADSL, which ended up being a huge letdown. Our then new ISP never told us our area had terrible coverage. I didn’t really get access to fast, modern internet until the late 2010s. Guess that’s just part of growing up in a rural town.
